Tenase brave
Published in Unknown Binding by Aurora Publishers ()
Author: Marion Herndon Dunn
Average review score:

Children learn about Cherokee life through a boy's eyes.
Little Brother is a young Tennessee Cherokee who is frustrated he has not performed a brave deed to earn his permanent name. Life just gets worse as he tries to be brave, do any feat which would earn a "good" name. Readers, mainly children, learn about Cherokee life in fascinatng detail. Cherokees used to use turkey feathers as towels, sopapilla plants for soap, enjoyed games we play today such as lacrosse. Children learn about foods and their preparation, how families back then were like our families today, and aspects of Cherokee culture and religion and their deep respect for the Earth. As a teacher, I use Tenase Brave as a thematic base for about a month's teaching in 3rd grade -- tieing in math, science, language, and Native American studies. Culmination of the unit is on or near Thanksgiving. The author is elderly, but lives nearby in Smyrna, Tennessee, and is extremely sharp and lively. She often visits schools who are fortunate enough to find and use her book. Children love to be read to, and this book is written in a format that lends itself of storytelling. It has humor, high adventure and is a fascinatingly well written little book. I highly recommend it.

amazing read
i've fallen in love with it. I haven't even finished the book yet but it's been amazing to read. It's filled with short stories about all girls, females, women. amazing. all different stories yet alike. I can't believe it's all been written by the same author. Her stories are beautifully told in such a short space of time. All stories are set in England. I don't want it to finish. I'm even going to try and find her other books.

The Theology of Paul's Letter to the Galatians
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (December, 1993)
Author: James D. G. Dunn
Average review score:

A book about 'theology in the raw"
Dunn opens this study of Paul's letter to the Galatians noting that this letter is not some "academic treatise drawn up in the calm autumn of a long life" but a cutting edge document articulating the theology of a new movement. Thus it is a letter that sings with urgency and passion. Dunn does a good job of capturing the historical circumstances that helped to foster St. Paul's passion. I was especially taken with the way Dunn identifies both the shared convictions and the points of dispute that existed between Paul and his opponents at Galatia. Paul, in Dunn's words, was doing "theology in the raw" as he both asserted the primacy of the cross of Jesus Christ and yet also maintained a hold on the roots of Judaism in the promise to Abraham.

This Side Of Judgment

If you like Bladerunner, you will LOVE this!
I have read this book several times now, and each time it's better than I remember it from before. It is every bit a worthy successor to "Bladerunner" - intensely bittersweet, evocative, masterfully written, a work of art in words. The plot may SEEM familiar but it's full of twists, turns and revelations that there's no comparing it closely to any other story I know of. The characters are BRILLIANTLY done - by the time you're finished reading it, you'll know how they think and what drives them probably better than you know your co-workers. Their motivations, actions, thoughts, histories, hopes and regrets are perfectly believable, and when they hurt or rejoice, you can't help but feel the same right along with them. Buy this book, it is the ULTIMATE "cyberpunk" book and better than anything even William Gibson or Bruce Sterling could write (and I'm fans of both those authors as well.)

Love it!
In tenth-century Ireland and Wales, many legends were told of the female warrior known only as The Raven. Here at last is the real story of her exploits and identity, and her struggle to escape from the evil Hamar, who kidnapped her from her home in Ireland and forced her to become a marauding killer.
At last she meets her match in Varrick the Fury, a kinsman of the Norse King of Dublin, who comes to rescue her from Hamar and restore her to the safety of her family. But Emlyn's past continues to haunt her as her identity as The Raven is uncovered, and Hamar is determined to get back his lethal assasin to do his bidding once more.

Wonderful Architypal Stories for Living
This book brings to our lives the anchient art of story-telling as is only seen in cultures living near the Earth. The stories have an ancient flavor and yet speak to our busy soul-serching lives today. This is a book that will inspire group discussion and personal growth as Estes' works have done. Women will be retelling these symbolic stories given us by the native women of our county as they have with "Women Who Run With the Wolves." This is a great book for women's circles and self-exploration groups wanting short stories with deep meaning and impact. I have enjoyed the book greatly and retell the stories in speaking engagements. The depth, humor and poignancy of these tales will stay with readers long after finishing the book.

It has a different section for every throwing event that covers everything from the basics to a faults and corrections of the throws. The book also contains a great section about training, which goes into great detail about the various methods of training for the throws, such as pylometrics and the Olympic lift. A True Likeness: The Black South of Richard Samuel Roberts 1920-1936

A True Likeness: The Black South of Richard S. Roberts
This book was a visual journey into the lives of early 20th century black america. Many of the pictures could be termed as "dignified photo essays" of life in the black community. You feel as though you are right there behind the lenses of these photo's while they're being taken. They almost have an "ethereal beauty" about them. In these photo's you can see the dignity of a race of people who were considered low class at the time of the photographs, but in the way they are portrayed you feel like you're in the presence of royalty. "A visual treat for the eye's" is the best way to describe this book . It is also well worth reading as you enjoy the beautiful photography! I would highly recommended this book to african americans and those who enjoy a look into the past!
